Make Your Own Watercolor Paints and Inks

Service Description

Students will learn how artists have used colors found in nature to create paints throughout history. Students will discover different materials from nature that can be used to create inks and paints. Students will learn the basic recipe for pigment extraction and creating lake pigments that can then be used to create a variety of art media. Students will use pigments to create watercolor paints. Students will learn best practices for pigment and paint storage. Students will discuss the light-fastness of different pigments and ways to preserve the colors in finished art. Students will “play” with their completed watercolors to create simple paintings on paper.
